2013 Philanthropic Project: Saving Grace

As the organization’s philanthropic project for 2013, the High Desert Design Council (HDDC) donated member time and resources—and secured donations from local contractors, services and product providers—for the complete renovation of the bathroom inside the local Saving Grace shelter.

Saving Grace provides support and services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, date rape and stalking. The 24-bed shelter was built in 1990 and has just one common bathroom that had fallen into disrepair. The shelter’s wish list included:

  • New flooring throughout (Marmoleum with cove base)
  • New toilets (comfort/ADA height)
  • New tub/shower – fix plumbing
  • New fiberglass shower insert
  • All new plumbing finishes / fixtures (faucets, sinks, etc.)
  • New countertops
  • New mirrors or frame exiting mirrors
  • New light fixtures
  • New paint throughout
  • Paper towel holders
  • ADA upgrades
  • New cabinets
  • New doors with user friendly hinges; new trim
  • Peg rack or hooks in shower rooms
  • New shelves/baskets for storage

With a time crunch of just  two weeks, the HDDC  team came together on August 3, 2013 and worked like a well-oiled machine to complete the bathroom renovation by August 18. (HDTV eat your heart out!)  Here’s a long list of all those that contributed. Your support was greatly appreciated. With a budget of $0, we literally could not have done this without you. You really have to love the community we live in!
